Many are pleased to see its return
Excitement is building in Nottingham city centre with a historic pub, which has been closed for around three years, set to reopen soon. Work has been taking place at the Peacock, in Mansfield Road, both inside and out, ready for a planned relaunch in February.
Courier Marek Racko, who is 23 and lives nearby, said: "There's a few pubs up and down the street. I think another pub just opened up up the road. Lance Coliner, 34, said: "I love a pub. I think that's the same for a lot of people. As long as the atmosphere is good - that's all you want really. A friendly place with good people where you can have a laugh and a good time on the weekends.
"There are lots of pubs around the city so I'm not sure if they'll have old loyal customers or they'll need new ones so hopefully people get out and support them. I'm sure they will - hopefully the food is good. As long as there's burgers and chips, I'm happy." The pub closed for a spell in 2019 when he retired after 19 years behind the bar - and although it reopened, it was short-term.

Dollar Stores and Food Access for Rural Households in the United States, 2008‒2020Dollar stores have rapidly expanded their food offerings in recent years. These foods tend to be higher in calories and lower in nutrients, raising public health concerns, especially in rural and low-income areas where food-access challenges are often greatest. However, there is limited empirical evidence evaluating the impact of this expansion on household food purchases on a national scale. Using data from a yearly, nationally representative panel of approximately 50 000 households, we estimated the share of food purchases from 2008 to 2020 by store type and evaluated the role of dollar stores as food retailers in the United States. We found that dollar stores were the fastest-growing food retailers by household expenditure share (increasing by 89.7%), with rural growth outpacing growth elsewhere (increasing by 102.9%). Though dollar stores still represent a small share of national household food purchases (2.1% in 2020), they play an increasingly prominent role in food-at-home purchases for certain disadvantaged and rural communities. Understanding the quality of the foods they offer and how this may affect diet-related health outcomes is warranted. (Am J Public Health.
