Hatate has been tried in two new positions and says he's keen to try it all.
Reo Hatate appears to have turned into a different animal for Japan - with the Celtic star being tried in two new positions on international duty.
And he's not shying away from the challenge as he told his manager he's ready for anything. Hatate is away with his country for upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Myanmar and Syria, earning a call-up after recovering from an injury hit season to star for Brendan Rodgers towards the end of the campaign. He'll be hoping to earn his ninth and tenth caps for his country during the break and it seems boss Hajime Moriyasu has been moving hell or high water to fit him in.
According to a report from Ultra, he was used in a 'variety of positions' in training - including 'inside half,' attacking midfield, and on the wing. 'Inside half' is an old school term referring to a central, or 'inside,' midfielder, essentially the same role he typically plays for Celtic. But Hatate being deployed as a No.10 or a winger is a new one, certainly at club level since his move to Scotland.
When asked about a potential positional change, the midfielder said: "I think it's great to take on new challenges. I hope to keep my head on straight both individually and as a team, and express that on the pitch."
