Tenants across Melbourne are signing up in droves to the nation’s largest sharehouse website as the rental crisis deepens. See the top 10 most in-demand suburbs
The site’s community manager Claudia Conley said increased demand reflected the rising cost of living and a worsening rental crisis.
“Some people unfortunately just cannot afford to live by themselves anymore due to the rising cost of living so they are entering into share accommodation for those reasons.”The two-bedroom home in Albert Park is positioned across from the beach. Ms Conley added that in the past year, they’d seen members in the age group 45 to 64 years old increase by 10 per cent.
As of May 2023, members between the ages 18 to 24 years and 25 to 34 years dropped off by 5 per cent and 6 per cent year-on-year, respectively. This week there were 6,400 rooms listed across Melbourne.
