Fashion rental company Rent the Runway is providing free memberships and clothing donations to victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Fashion rental company Rent the Runway is extending a helping hand to the victims of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. In a heartwarming gesture, the company announced on Thursday, January 16th, that it would be providing free memberships to individuals whose homes were destroyed by the raging infernos. The company's commitment extends beyond offering clothing rentals, as they are also donating thousands of garments to the YMCA of Los Angeles to aid residents in rebuilding their wardrobes.
Rent the Runway operates on a unique model, allowing customers to rent designer clothing items online at a fraction of the retail price. The company also offers a subscription service, where members can receive boxes containing either 5 or 10 clothing items, try them on, and return what they don't want, with the option to purchase their favorites. Recognizing the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires, Rent the Runway has made it easy for displaced or evacuated subscribers to manage their orders. They can text 69787 to temporarily suspend deliveries, reroute items to a new address, or notify the company about any lost items due to the fires. The company emphasizes inclusivity and encourages anyone affected by the wildfires to apply for this generous offer. Rent the Runway has pledged to donate up to 10,000 codes for a two-month subscription as part of this relief program. Alongside this initiative, numerous other corporations and individuals have stepped forward to provide support. Netflix, Comcast, Warner Bros., and the Walt Disney Company have each pledged $15 million to different foundations aiding those impacted by the fires. Amazon has committed $10 million, while the NFL has pledged $5 million. Even Snapchat, founded by Pacific Palisades native Evan Spiegel, has donated $5 million to various charities. Spiegel personally joined forces with Chef José Andrés' World Central Kitchen to distribute meals to first responders and displaced residents
