Renault's board votes to remove CEO Thierry Bolloré amid concerns about his relationship with Nissan following the Carlos Ghosn scandal
By Nick Kostov Oct. 11, 2019 5:13 am ET PARIS— Renault SA RNO 3.19% ’s board has voted to remove Chief Executive Thierry Bolloré as the French car maker seeks to turn the page on auto titan Carlos Ghosn’s decades of leadership and reboot its globe-spanning alliance with Nissan Motor Co. NSANY -0.08%
Renault’s board decided to end Mr. Bolloré’s mandate “with immediate effect,” the company said. Mr. Bolloré told French newspaper Les Echos ahead of the meeting that “the brutality and the totally unexpected character of what is happening are stupefying.” Mr. Bolloré was Mr. Ghosn’s deputy at the time of the auto titan’s arrest in November for financial misconduct, which Mr. Ghosn denies.
He was swiftly tapped to replace Mr. Ghosn, but he has struggled to lower tensions with Nissan executives. Renault’s Chief Financial Officer Clotilde Delbos has been tapped to take over as acting CEO until a permanent chief executive is selected.Copyright ©2019 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
