“Then around midnight, Gregg Allman came down and rocked the stage,” she wrote in a 1994 edition of her legendary “What’s Happening” column. “She was very knowledgeable about music and wanted to ‘make it’ and someday play with the Rolling Stones and bands of that caliber. And in a few years, she did.”
The night began with Popper sitting in with Oroboros before other H.O.R.D.E. acts arrived and played a set using Miller and company’s equipment.“Because my amplifier was up there, I sort of whored -- I don’t mean H.O.R.D.E. -- my way into all of that. I happened to be there when the Allman Brothers Band showed up. I got to play like seven songs with them.
