In the 40 short years of David Naismith's life, he had a profound impact on Glasgow that continues to this day, having founded homeless charities Glasgow City Mission and Right There.

Glasgow is fortunate to have numerous world-class homeless charities across our city, taking on the vital work of supporting and providing safe respite for some of the most vulnerable individuals.

David Naismith was born in Glasgow in 1799, and although he only lived 40 short years, passing away in 1839, he made an impact on our city that still reverberates today. In 1824, founded the Glasgow Young Men's Society for Religious Improvement - now known as Right There. However, the formation of Right There is far from the end of David Naismith's legacy in Glasgow. In 1826, he began Glasgow City Mission, which remains one of the city's most significant homeless charities to this day.
