FORMER senator Rodolfo “Pong” Biazon passed away at 88 on June 12, a genuine patriot who served his country unconditionally, to the best of his abilities, against all odds.

His record as a cadet at the Philippine Military Academy was far from exemplary; he was known to be the 'goat' in his class. But he overcame his poor beginnings and rose to become a well-loved PMA superintendent, a highly respected commandant of the Philippine Marines, and finally a celebrated Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff.

Pong and FVR shared the same professional background, and the same vision, while I worked very hard to support FVR's proposals at the Ledac meetings. Week after week FVR presided over these meetings to discuss the various measures to be prioritized by the legislature and I was there for the Senate.
