'The prom is dead': Relentless rain sees Blackpool traders struggle with 'worst' summer as visitors deter seaside town
‘Relentless’ rain and the cost of living crisis is seeing businesses in Blackpool struggle through the ‘worst’ summer in years.
Lancashire was set to be hit by winds of up to 80mph, sparking a weather warning from the Met Office, but the yellow weather warning instead gave way to heavy showers in coastal areas like Blackpool. Pauline, who herself has worked with the donkeys for decades, said: "Blackpool is dependent on the weather, people just won't come out if it is raining. Less people are coming here on holiday, and after Covid, they are choosing to go abroad because they can again now. This is not the worst summer, but it is one of them."
"We will have a really good weekend for the Air Show and the promenade will be packed, people come to that whatever the weather, but I can't see that saving us. It won't be enough". “People are also maybe trying to hold on for a bit to see if the weather pick up, so maybe they will come out later in the summer.
