Pokémon Winds and Waves have been officially unveiled as the Gen 10 games during February 27's Pokémon Presents livestream. While some key details, like the actual name of the region, weren't revealed then, it did give us a first look at the Gen 10 Starters and some vast and lush landscapes.
After a nearly infinite amount of speculation, leaks, and rumors regarding the Gen 10 games, it was honestly surprising to see how many Winds and Waves leaks turned out true. While there are still a lot of questions regarding the upcoming Pokémon games, we at least have several key details . Pokémon Winds & Waves' New Trailer & Gameplay Details A Vast World Awaits Trainers In Gen 10 The announcement trailer for Pokémon Winds and Waves , gave us our first look at the games' expansive open world. From windmills, beaches, and waterfalls to a vibrant island town and a thick jungle, there's a lot to unpack from the trailer alone, including all sorts of returning Pokémon . In terms of gameplay, there wasn't a lot shown off, but it looks like those underwater exploration leaks were accurate too. The same goes for the new region made up of a set of islands. We also know Gen 10 is going to be another open-world game like Scarlet and Violet. New Trainer outfits, along with what appears to be a hoverboard, were also shown. Pokémon Winds & Waves New Starters Bralit, Flombon, & Gecqua The new Starter Pokémon for Winds and Waves are: Browt, Pombon, and Grecqua. Browt is a Grass-type known as the Bean Chick Pokémon. It's being described as"lively but clumsy." The Fire-type Starter is called Pombon. Known as the Puppy Pokémon, it's being characterized as"guileless and friendly." It also seems to be an early favorite in terms of best new Starter. Last but not least is Grecqua, the Water Gecko Pokémon. The Water-type Starter looks a bit like Gen 6's Froakie, a bit like Gen 8's Sobble. It's described as having a lot of speed and being very intelligent. Right now, we haven't seen what the later evolutions will look like for these Starters, which may ultimately affect which Pokémon you choose once Winds and Waves are out. Considering you spend the most time with the final evolution, seeing those designs will end up being the deciding factor for a lot of people. Pokémon Winds & Waves Pokédex What New & Returning Are Confirmed Pokémon So Far From Wailord in the sea to Gloom prowling around the jungle, there were quite a few Pokémon shown off in the reveal for Winds and Waves. Here are all the returning Pokémon we spotted in the trailer: That's not a bad start to the Gen 10 games. Right now, we don't have a confirmed number regarding the games' Pokédex. However, previous leaks claimed there would be around 100 new Pokémon, with a Pokédex somewhere around 400. That's pretty ambitious, but it does put Gen 10 around the same as quite a few previous generations, so it wouldn't be totally unheard of. Pokémon Winds & Waves Release Window & Platforms Gen 10 Is Arriving In 2027 On Switch 2 Pokémon Winds and Waves has a release window of 2027. Right now, there's no specific release date. However, considering most mainline games have released in November, I'd expect Gen 10 to launch during that month too. This would also offer The Pokémon Company and Game Freak a chance to show off more at next year's Pokémon Presents before the games launch. The Gen 10 games have only been confirmed for release on Nintendo Switch 2. That's to be expected, especially since many first-party Nintendo titles are already releasing exclusively on the new console, but it does mean anyone holding out with a Switch 1 will need the newer platform in order to play. Overall, it feels like Pokémon Winds and Waves are off to a really nice start. Considering they're out in 2027, that's plenty of time for more information to come in. We'll be updating this article regugarly to reflect the latest information for the Gen 10 games.
