Moto GP: Aussie Jack Miller has narrowly missed out on a podium finish in Thailand.

Jorge Martin took a giant step towards winning the MotoGP world championship in Malaysia on Saturday, the Spaniard profiting from a crash by reigning world champion Francesco Bagnaia to ease to victory in the Sepang sprint race to extend his series lead.

Should Martin scored nine more points than Bagnaia in Sunday’s 20-lap Grand Prix – the difference between first and third – Martin will be crowned world champion for the first time with one round of the 20-event season remaining.“It was a difficult race, I started very well but I saw even doing … a record pace, Pecco and Marc were quite close.

Bagnaia’s costly crash was his eighth of the season, continuing a theme of wasted opportunities for the reigning world champion, who is seeking a third world title in succession this year.
