Detmers strikes out five in two perfect innings to begin game, but ends up allowing seven runs. Only four of the runs are earned, because of an error and a passed ball.
MILWAUKEE — A promising start turned into a 7-5 loss for the Angels against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night.
After that, though, Detmers was hit hard and his defense also let him down at some key moments, and the game got away from the Angels when they allowed three runs in the third and four more in the fifth. Detmers, who was expected to build on last year’s success as a rookie because of gains to his velocity over the winter, so far has failed to deliver. He has a 4.85 ERA through his first five starts of the season.
Detmers induced two straight grounders, pushing in one run, but then Willie Adames hit a fly ball into shallow center field. Mike Trout raced in and dove, but couldn’t make the catch, as another run scored. Adames then went to second on a passed ball.In the fifth, Detmers again issued a leadoff walk, this time to Miller, the No. 8 hitter. The next two hitters hit sharp grounders to third baseman Anthony Rendon, and both of them clanked off his glove.
