There are now over 100 million registered SIMs nationwide as of June 20, or over a month before the extended deadline for the registration, the National Telecommunication Commission said.

According to the latest count at NTC’s website, there are exactly 100,048,884 individuals registered or 59.55% of the 168,016,400 subscribers in the country. Of the total registered SIMs, 6.9 million are DITO subscribers; 45.8 million are Globe subscribers; and 47.2 million use Smart. The national government in April imposed a 90-day extension on SIM registration, which would render unregistered SIM owners to lose their access to call-and-text services and e-wallets by July 26.

The SIM Registration Act seeks to address the proliferation of text scams in the country, as well as other crimes committed through text messages.
