Some countries have eased their Covid-19 rules to accommodate the influx of Ukrainian refugees, but many still face challenges.

Prior to the invasion by Russia, Ukrainian health authorities had struggled with the Covid-19 vaccine rollout in the country primarily due to large-scale hesitancy.by CodaStory, these divisions over vaccines were further fanned by Russian propaganda. Last year, Moscow provided its Sputnik V shots to separatist territories in the Donbas region, while Ukrainian officials attempted to secure vaccines from Europe.

Kyiv then banned the Russian vaccine—which at the time had not been approved by European authorities. The Kremlin-funded media then used this to accuse the Ukrainian government of committing “genocide” of its people for political purposes. While countries bordering Ukraine appear to have eased Covid-related restrictions for incoming refugees, many people are still running into roadblocks in other parts of Europe and in North America.
