Father Ro Atilano, Jesuit priest: 'In the end, we will be judged by our acts of love and kindness especially to the poor – not by our ideas, degrees, positions, influence, knowledge, and wealth.'

Have you ever wondered what questions shall God ask of us when we reach the gates of heaven right after we die? Well, that is assuming if we even reach the gates.

Remember this popular passage in Matthew 25:"Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do it to me!" For Father Rolheiser, Jesus is saying here that God does not only prioritizes the poor, God is, in fact, in the poor! So therefore, how we treat the least, the last, and the lost amongst us is how we also treat God. Just like the great prophets of the Old Testament, Jesus is also telling us that we will be judged by how we treat the poor around us.

The truth is we don’t want to be inconvenienced by the sufferings of the world. We prefer to protect our personal interests so instead of reaching out to the needy and building bridges, we build higher and higher walls. We close our eyes when we are supposed to open them.
