A Reeltown High School senior is turning the tassel twice this graduation season, creating history in the process.
Kadynce Jacks is the first Reeltown High School student in history to graduate from community college via dual enrollment courses before receiving her high school diploma, according to Tallapoosa County Superintendent Casey Davis.
She graduated from Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City on May 13 and will graduate high school on May 22.
“It shows that other people can do it,” Jacks said after receiving her first diploma. “I think a lot of other students don’t realize it’s a possibility. ” While Jacks is the first Reeltown student to accomplish the feat, it’s not unusual in the Tallapoosa County school system. In fact, several other local dual enrollment students graduated in the same ceremony.
“The new change in direction we’re going with is trying to prepare students for the workforce,” Davis said. “College, career, and life is a part of our motto here in Tallapoosa County. By having this opportunity for our students to actually graduate with a college degree prior to walking across the high school graduation receiving their diploma next week is an opportunity to hopefully model for our other students.
” Jacks is graduating from Reeltown as Salutatorian and graduated from Central Alabama Community College with Magna Cum Laude honors. She plans to attend Auburn in the fall and hopes to attend Harvard as a post-graduate student in her journey to become a forensic psychiatrist.
