The Reds scored one run against Ryne Stanek in the seventh inning and in the ninth scored four more against Rafael Montero.Bielak’s stuff wasn’t his sharpest, but the righthander did not receive much help from his defense. “Obviously, it's always unideal,” Bielak said. “But at the end of the day, the infield is gonna get more ground balls as the game is going to go on. Just the type of pitcher I am. I knew they had my back from Pitch 1 until the last pitch of the game, so I knew they were gonna be ready for whatever ground ball was coming their way.”
Bielak got the second out of the inning on a sacrifice bunt, but as he fielded it down the first-base line Benson slid home and scored to give Cincinnati a 3-1 lead. Although the deficit appeared manageable, it only widened.Bielak entered Saturday ranked in the bottom 2 percent of major league pitchers in hard-hit ball rate and in the bottom 4 percent in expected slugging percentage. He had allowed multiple extra-base hits in all but one of his prior starts this season.
