Reddit users defended a professor after she was fired for showing images of Muhammad in an Islamic art class, despite reportedly warning students multiple times.
Bill Maher used his Club Random podcast this week to unload on attacks on free speech, hammering fellow liberals as "insane" and "backward" for failing to call out religious extremism when it comes to Islam., despite reportedly issuing multiple warnings to students. The post went viral, racking up over 72,000 likes in a subreddit called"WhitePersonTwitter."
This painting by medieval Islamic scholar Rashid al-Din shows Muhammad receiving his first revelation from the angel Gabriel, and was reportedly one of the images shown to the class at Hamline University.The New York Times revelations sparked outrage on Reddit, where many users defended the adjunct professor for warning the students ahead of time.
The post continued:"These paintings were commissioned and paid for by the wealthy, educated, Islamic rulers at the time of their creation and weren’t secret or insidious." In an interview with the school’s newspaper, one student said that the incident made her feel excluded from the community.
