Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran went after a reporter who accused the team of lying about injuries before deleting his account
Boston Red Sox star Jarren Duran has logged off. The outfielder has apparently deleted his Instagram account after taking a shot at NBC Sports Boston’s Michael Holley.
Holley, 56, had called out the Red Sox for allegedly lying about player injuries amid a miserable season for the proud franchise. He was talking specifically about top prospect Roman Anthony, who is on the Injured List with a right wrist sprain.
“I understand why all teams do it, but let’s just be honest. All teams lie. They lie about injuries, they just do,” Holley claimed on the air on Friday, May 8.
“Tell me a forthcoming organization in this city when it comes to injuries. They just don’t. ” He continued, So when the Red Sox did it, like, why are we doing this? Why are you playing games with us?

He’s not! ” Duran, 29, shared the clip via his Instagram Story on Sunday, May 10, hours before his account disappeared from the platform.
“They let people like this on NBC Sports,” he wrote over the video, followed by a clown emoji and a crying laughing emoji. Us Weekly has reached out to Duran for comment. The Red Sox are just 17-23 on the season and sit in last place in the American League East. Duran is one of several Boston players who have struggled at the plate so far this season, hitting .194 through 35 games played.
This isn’t the first time this season that Duran has sparked controversy. Cameras caught him flipping off a fan during a game in Minnesota in April. He later claimed to reporters that the fan had told him to kill himself.
“I’m used to it at this point, you know? I mean, s*** happens,” said Duran, who has been open about his mental health struggles in the past.
“I mean, I’m going to flip somebody off if they say something to me, but it is what it is. I shouldn’t react like that, but that kind of stuff is still kind of triggering. ” In 2024, Duran’s lone All-Star season, stadium microphones caught him using a homophobic slur when yelling at a heckler. The Red Sox suspended Duran for two games, and when he returned, he wore a shirt that said “F*** Em” during his pregame media availability.
Duran apologized to the fan with a statement released via the Red Sox before his suspension.
“During tonight’s game, I used a truly horrific word when responding to a fan,” the statement read. “I feel awful knowing how many people I offended and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly to the entire LGBTQ community. ”
