Damola Adamolekun, the CEO of Red Lobster, outlines his three key leadership strategies that have contributed to his success. These strategies include staying present and focused, managing emotions effectively, and prioritizing recharging.

Damola Adamolekun , who took the helm as Red Lobster 's CEO in September 2024, has implemented a series of changes aimed at revitalizing the seafood chain. These changes include the introduction of a cutting-edge menu, the reintroduction of popular customer favorites, the addition of new dishes, and the rollout of happy hour promotions at numerous restaurants across the country.

Adamolekun, who previously served as CEO of PF Chang's, shared with Business Insider that his leadership philosophy remains consistent across companies. He prioritizes investing in employees, streamlining and enhancing operations, ensuring a consistently high-quality product, revitalizing marketing efforts, and upgrading technology systems and infrastructure. Before his tenure at PF Chang's, Adamolekun gained valuable experience in the financial sector. He held the position of partner at Paulson & Co., a New York City-based investment firm, where he led the acquisition of PF Chang's in 2019. He then progressed through the ranks, serving as chief strategy officer and company director until his appointment as CEO in May 2020 at the young age of 31. He held this role until December 2023. His earlier career also included roles in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and as a private equity associate at TPG Capital.Adamolekun attributes his success to three key leadership tactics. First, he emphasizes the importance of staying present and focused on the task at hand. In today's fast-paced world, distractions are abundant. By concentrating on one task at a time, Adamolekun not only boosts his own productivity but also sets a positive example for his team. This focused approach enables him to make well-informed decisions, maintain clarity, drive initiatives forward, and avoid the pitfalls of rushing or multitasking. Second, he stresses the need for emotional intelligence, particularly in challenging situations. Adamolekun believes effective leaders can manage their emotions and respond rather than react. He advocates for taking a moment to pause, assess the situation objectively, and respond thoughtfully instead of acting impulsively. This approach helps him maintain composure during crises, make sound decisions, and lead with empathy. Finally, Adamolekun prioritizes recharging and refocusing to enhance clarity and creativity. He recognizes the importance of disconnecting from work to allow for mental restoration and reflection. By taking time to unplug, Adamolekun returns to his team with renewed energy, fresh perspectives, and a more balanced outlook
