New daily and monthly records were set Thursday in Santa Rosa and San Rafael.
In the North Bay, Santa Rosa hit 92 degrees, shattering the previous daily record of 83 degrees set in 2004 and the previous monthly record of 91 set on March 16, 2024. A similar story unfolded in San Rafael, where the high of 89 broke the previous daily record of 81 set in 1964 and the previous monthly record of 88 set on March 25, 1952.
Napa and Kentfield also set new daily records of 88 and 86, respectively. Napa’s previous record of 86 was set in 1914 and Kentfield’s previous record of 83 was set in 1996. In the East Bay, the thermometer at the Oakland Museum climbed to 88, toppling the previous daily record of 81 set in 1984, while Richmond’s high of 86 dusted the previous daily record of 80 set in 1996. Redwood City on the Peninsula reached 91, pummeling the previous daily record of 81 set in 2010, and San Francisco International Airport topped out at 81, beating the previous daily record of 78 set in 2010. The South Bay was not spared either. San Jose’s high of 85 upended the previous daily record of 82 set in 1988. Finally, Salinas on the Central Coast soared to 91 degrees, obliterating the previous daily record of 87 set in 1997. The record-breaking heat is expected to continue through Friday, according to the weather service.
