Reckless Corvette driver crashes, kills pedestrian.
Shawman Meireis, 41, of Naples, Florida was visiting Chicago with her boyfriend when she was hit by the Corvette after the driver lost control and struck a Hyundai headed the other direction on 65th Street in the Jackson Park area of the city. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she ultimately died.
The 27-year old Corvette driver told police he was fleeing a carjacking at the time of the incident. Witnesses, however, claim he was racing another Corvette. Video obtained byshows two cars, the red C7 and an unidentified blue Corvette, weaving in and out of traffic shortly before the crash occurred.
The driver of the Corvette was cited for obstructed front windshield and failure to exercise due care with a pedestrian in the roadway, according toMeireis “was a much-loved daughter, sister, aunt, and partner,” her family said in a statement to. “Shawman loved music, the outdoors and her many nieces and nephews. She was the ultimate aunt, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.”
