More than 200,000 pounds of deli meats have been recalled after being suspected of possible Listeria contamination.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The number of products and pounds of Boar’s Head Provisions Co. deli-meat products recalled because of possible Listeria contamination has been expanded greatly, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The recall of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products from the Jarratt, Virginia, company has gone from 207,528 pounds to about 7 million pounds. The number of products jumped from fewer than 10 to 71 products produced between May 10 and July 29 under the Boar’s Head and Old Country brands. Items include meat intended for slicing at delis as well as packaged meat and poultry products sold at retail locations.These products have sell-by dates ranging from 29-JUL-2024 through 17-OCT-24.
As of Tuesday, 34 sick people have been identified in 13 states, including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths. Listeriosis can cause fever, aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. Consumers who have purchased the products are urged to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
