Rebuild Cleveland and FutureHeights have teamed up to address the need for in-fill housing in Cleveland Heights by proposing the development of modular homes on vacant city-owned land. The organizations hope their proposal, which combines development expertise with community engagement, will revitalize targeted properties.
Rebuild Cleveland , a real estate development firm specializing in pre-fabricated modular house construction, and FutureHeights, a nonprofit community development corporation, have joined forces to tackle the pressing need for in-fill housing in Cleveland. This approach involves building new housing units within existing residential areas, typically on vacant lots.
The two organizations are actively seeking to persuade Cleveland Heights to sell them vacant city-owned land where they plan to develop several modular homes. Modular homes are constructed off-site in factories and then assembled quickly on location. In an October request, the city expressed its desire to identify qualified developers, builders, and contractors to purchase up to 195 vacant city-owned lots for the construction of new single, two-family, or multi-family housing units across a range of price points. Cleveland.com reached out to obtain a copy of the proposal submitted by Rebuild Cleveland and FutureHeights. In a news release, the groups characterized their proposal as “a strategy for sustainably revitalizing a targeted subset of properties through a mix of new construction and rehabilitation efforts.” Seth Task, a partner at Rebuild Cleveland, stated in a press release, “Our hope is that by combining our development expertise with FutureHeights’ strong community presence, we can ensure that these projects are not only well-built, but also aligned with the needs and wants of residents.” While they await the city’s decision on their proposal, Rebuild Cleveland and FutureHeights will continue their work on a modular housing project located on Altamont Avenue, a property owned by FutureHeights. The city of Cleveland has already awarded Rebuild Cleveland up to $1.75 million for similar projects within the city limits, according to a city spokesman. Cleveland has also recently invested in 19 modular homes through a partnership with Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. Mayor Justin Bibb is actively pursuing the establishment of a modular housing manufacturing facility within Cleveland.
