However, there has been pushback from conservationists who say the project will hurt the land.
“It may be that the development on its own has minimal impact out there,” Robert Mace, executive director at the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment and a professor at Texas State University told Bloomberg. “But once the area starts getting developed, it’s all going to compound and cause more problems.”
David Hillis, director of UT’s Biodiversity Center and soon-to-be lead on a research project at the Hill Country Field Station in Mirasol Springs said he thinks the focus should be on the benefits the project could bring.“What Steve Winn is doing with this development is setting aside a huge portion of the land he owns for conservation easement. That conservation easement is a critical part for us to be able to study,” Hillis said.
