Teachers at New Tech High School in Coppell ISD say using real-life examples helps students understand the importance of math. To illustrate this, the teacher tasked students with choosing a car, calculating costs using algebra, and even calling dealerships to negotiate a deal. Students found this approach much more engaging and relatable than abstract equations. They learned about taxes, financing, and the practical applications of math in everyday life.
While some initially aimed for a luxury sports car, they quickly realized the complexity of the calculations involved. Ultimately, they gained a new appreciation for how quadratic equations can be useful beyond theoretical contexts
