Reagan High School Theatre Teacher Paul Fillingim has won the 2024 'Inspiring Teacher Award.'
The House voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over audio of President Joe Biden.The National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Jimmy Awards , showcases the best young talent in the country.
“It feels like an award for the entire team at Reagan that produces the musical each year,” said Fillingim. “I just happen to be the one to walk on stage to accept the trophy. The support that we receive from our parents, faculty and administration is second to none. I am lucky to be part of the Reagan Fine Arts department and this award is a testament to the collaborative spirit of our community.
Fillingim was nominated by Cameron Duggins, his former student, and is one of two educators in the nation to earn this recognition. This award is presented annually to up to two teachers of Jimmy Awards participants, and selection is based on student-submitted nomination materials. “I am still in shock and feel honored that Cameron Duggins, our Jimmy Award’s Nominee from last year, took the time to nominate me. It is called the “Inspiring Teacher Award” and to me that particular word ‘inspiring’ speaks to the most important part of what we do as arts educators. We are not only training next generation’s artists, but inspiring students to make the arts part of their lives long after high school. That impact exists at both the local and national levels.
Fillingim will travel to New York City to receive his award during the Jimmy Awards ceremony on June 24. The award also comes with a $2,500 cash grant to support future musical theatre productions.
