With his teammates giving him plenty of early cushion, Reagan junior Sean Mattivi remained locked in just in case.The Rattlers built on an early two-goal lead en route to a 6-0 victory over Laredo Alexander in a Region IV-6A semifinal Friday at Comalander Stadium.
Mattivi triggered the Rattlers’ third goal after saving a nice header off corner kick. Mattivi played the ball up and Reagan went on a quick counter-attack. Taking advantage of numbers, the Rattlers used three passes to get to Andre Huereca, who scored 15 seconds after Mattivi’s save for a 3-0 lead with 28:43 left until halftime.
The Rattlers advance to the regional finals for the first time since making back-to-back appearances in 2018 and 2019. The Rattlers won in 2018 and lost to Alief Elsik in the state final. The score stayed that way until Bethke hammered in a one-time off a high bounce to make it 2-1 with 20:11 left in the second half.Harlan missed two big chances for cut into the lead when the ball scrambled around dangerously in front of the Cavaliers goal. The Hawks missed two shots including one that sailed just over the net with 12 minutes remaining.
