Job training, classes through city’s Ready to Work program to start this summer

Participants will be able to pursue associate or bachelor’s degrees, or enter training for industry-recognized certificates.Participants can pre-register for Ready to Work now by calling 311. Training starts in the late summer after participants have chosen a career path. Some enrollees may choose a training course that will last a few weeks, while others will pursue four-year degrees.

Organizers of Ready to Work expect around 40 percent of participants will pursue college degrees, and the other 60 percent will seek industry certificates that take less time to attain. And the two training programs are distinct, so classes won’t overlap. City officials have said training providers likely will have to add staffers to handle the extra workload.‘I have a career’: After bumpy roll-out, over 1,100 San Antonians working through Train for Jobs

There are still over 2,100 people in training through Train for Jobs, and another 2,200 who are awaiting enrollment. About 500 people dropped out of training after they enrolled, just under 10 percent of all participants.
