I am a 75-year-old life-long Democrat. I have voted for the Democratic candidate every time I have voted for president. I have been a strong supporter of President Biden for a long time. I believe that he has done a good job as president. However, I think his debate performance showed that he is past his prime. I think that for the benefit of the country he should now step down as a candidate for the presidency. Our country has too much to lose if Trump is elected.
That these are the two people politicians say are most likely to be the best available leaders for our country is incredible, and depressing.Last night’s presidential debate proved only one thing — our two-party system of partisan politics is broken. Our country, the most powerful, prosperous and innovative on Earth, can’t produce a better choice than either a corrupt, self-serving tyrant or a weak, feeble-minded incumbent to be president. Seriously?
Decades of Republican-majority Supreme Court decisions have allowed a flood of money from corporations and billionaires into political campaigns which has corrupted our body politic, bypassed the will of the majority of voters and made a sham of our elections in the process. So faced with a terrible choice in November, I’ve made my choice — to vote for and support candidates who endorse public financing of campaigns, ranked choice voting, overturning Citizens United, finance disclosure laws and other measures which together can get the corrupting torrent of money out of politics.Too bad so many Americans cannot entertain the idea of a woman president.
