Ex–Trump ally Michael Cohen's prepared testimony to House oversight panel
President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, is expected to give a behind-the-scenes account of what he will claim is Trump’s lying, racism and cheating, and possibly even criminal conduct while in the White House, when he testifies publicly before a House committee on Wednesday. The Trump administration has said Cohen, as a “convicted liar,” shouldn’t be taken at his word. Here is a draft of Cohen’s opening statement for Wednesday’s testimony in full.
Chairman Cummings, Ranking Member Jordan, and Members of the Committee, thank you for inviting me here today. I have asked this Committee to ensure that my family be protected from Presidential threats, and that the Committee be sensitive to the questions pertaining to ongoing investigations. Thank you for your help and for your understanding.
