As it turns out, the fourth installment found inspiration in Child's 13th Jack Reacher novel, Gone Tomorrow, which was published in 2009.
"The thing about subway cars is you step on one and you never know what’s going to happen," the announcement quoted in the caption. As hinted in the quote, the story of Gone Tomorrow kicks off when Reacher encounters a woman on the subway acting erratic and when he approaches her to de-escalate the situation, things take a turn for the worse.
After the incident, Reacher digs into what happened and uncovers an entire conspiracy involving a corrupt politician, terrorists, and even a shadow war.
"Susan Mark was the fifth passenger," the book description reads. "She had a lonely heart, an estranged son, and a big secret. Reacher, working with a woman cop and a host of shadowy feds, wants to know just how big a hole Susan Mark was in, how many lives had already been twisted before hers, and what danger is looming around him now.
