A new program aims to strengthen the pipeline of teachers for the Rochester City School District.
Rochester City School District Superintendent Eric Jay Rosser watches as Sumara Case, the district's senior director of staff and educator effectiveness, speaks during the Teach Rochester community outreach breakfast Wednesday, Feb.
25, 2026. The district has launched the Teach Rochester initiative, with the goal of recruiting, developing and retaining "high-quality educators who reflect the city’s vibrant diversity." Benefits of the program include salary advancement with a potential minimum starting salary of $52,520, assistance with reducing student debt, individualized certification planning, one-on-one support and first-year mentorship, according to the district. It also offers "accelerators" for those working in other positions in the district to become full-time teachers. "We've been working internally in the district to grow teachers from our paraprofessionals, our teaching assistants, our substitute teachers, from people in the community that have an interest in making a difference for students in Rochester," said Christopher Miller, the district's chief of human capital. "Individuals that are stepping up for Rochester are individuals who represent our students," Miller added. "They are individuals who come from Rochester, they went to our schools, they graduated from our schools, they look like our students, they speak out students' languages, and so they are representing the diversity and the richness of the Rochester City School District."Anyone interested in the program is encouraged to call the Office of Human Capital at 262-8597 or email at jobs@rcsdk12.org.The Warsaw school board held its first meeting Tuesday since the district canceled the remainder of its JV and varsity boys basketball season. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating a violent altercation Tuesday afternoon at the Wegmans on Penfield Road.Tractor-trailer stuck under bridge in Brockport
