Following Sunday’s disappointing loss to Newcastle United, the Red Devils initiated one change as Erik ten Hag dropped Wout Weghorst to the bench to bring in Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils, though, did go ahead before the half-hour mark after Marcus Rashford pounced on a clever knockdown by Marcel Sabitzer and side-footed into the roof of the net. After a decent period in the second stanza, United were inches away to doubling their lead through a low shot by Sabtizer but David Raya stretched across and produced a save.

The Red Devils got more openings from the host albeit on the break and came close when Rashford dropped a shoulder from a tight angle before setting up Fred for a shot, but sent his strike over the crossbar.
