SAN ANTONIO - After several days of good soaking rain for a number of our river drainage basins into major lakes in our region, slow improvement continues. In
addition, aquifer levels are responding too. Medina Lake has seen the largest increase so far, up just over 5 feet and still rising. The level of increase is slowing however as the Medina River inflow into the lake is not as strong as Tuesday. That said, the Medina River is still flowing above normal levels for late July which should continue through the weekend with more rain in the forecast.
Canyon Lake is just now starting to see increases as the powerful surge of water moving down the Guadalupe River is pushing into the lake. This record surge for late July should bring the lake up from 55.1% to closer to 60%. With any luck, perhaps exceeding that mark and with more rain ahead, could sustain the river flow feeding into the lake into next week.
Lake Amistad out west has seen some increase from quite a bit of rain in West Texas flowing into the lake. The Edwards Aquifer is up 4 feet from days ago and climbing. Of note, this is still well below the July average by more than 25 feet. We've seen additional scattered showers and t-storms today but the overall amount of rain has been lower along with the coverage. We still have more rain chances in the coming days with Friday into the weekend the higher chances before the pattern shuts down next week.
