A convicted rapist has won his 15-year battle to gain full access to a £7.2 million jackpot.
Iorworth Hoare was urged to give his winnings away by the daughter of one of his victims
Since walking free the following year, he has reportedly been allowed to draw £8,666 per month under the terms of his licence conditions – netting him a tidy £1.9 million over the years. Former headteacher Shirley, who died last year aged 92, won an MBE after winning a separate legal battle to force the rapist to pay compensation – though it amounted to just a fraction of his fortune.Shirley, who was 59 at the time of the attack, was told there was no point suing Hoare for damages at the time of his conviction as he was penniless.
Shirley gave her compensation away to good causes anonymously, waiving her right to anonymity in 2012 after being decorated by the Queen in 2012. Thanks to Shirley’s work, victims of serious sexual assaults can be exempted from the six-year time limit on bringing civil claims against their attacker.
