During their press conference held downtown on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022 in San Diego, CA.,Will Rodriguez-Kennedy listened to questions from reporters after an audio recording was played to news reporters. Kennedy was at the press conference with his attorney’s, Eugene Iredale and Marlea Dell’Anno. The former chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party has settled a lawsuit accusing him of rape, two years after the allegations prompted him to step down from the powerful political role.
“Recently we have had the opportunity to meet and discuss a misunderstanding that caused us both a lot of pain,” the statement said. By September of that year, days after prosecutors declined to file charges, Rendon filed a civil lawsuit accusing Rodriguez-Kennedy of raping him when he was drunk and unconscious.The former Democratic Party chair has said the accusations took a significant toll on his professional life and his mental health, leaving him struggling to find work and wrestling with suicidal thoughts.
