A man singing support for a SODA ordinance at the Seattle city council was a cringe-worthy performance that could end democratic governance.
The Seattle City Council seems to be on the verge of enacting Stay Out of Drug Area orders, with one public commenter taking a highly unconventional and cringey approach to show support for the measure — by singing his testimony.
SODA orders would allow judges to ban individuals charged with drug-related offenses from specific areas as a condition of their pre-trial release. These potential zones would cover neighborhoods like downtown and north Seattle around Aurora Avenue, which are plagued by chronic drug-related issues.
The highlight of a Sept. 10 council meeting was the man who decided to serenade the council with his support. His singing performance was so bizarre and uncomfortable that it felt like it could derail not just the SODA legislation in Seattle, but faith in public discourse and governance altogether . Good luck sitting through it without wincing.
The only fun part of this performance is that activists in the audience were mad when he wouldn’t stop singing. These same people cheer when they interrupt council meetings with their Radical Left chants. Listen to The Jason Rantz Show on weekday afternoons from 3-7 p.m. on KTTH 770 AM .
