Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung singles to left field to end a no-hitter during the eighth inning of a game against the New York Yankees at Globe Life Field, Monday, Oct. 3, 2022 in Arlington, Texas.Rangers’ starting third basemanIt may sound like a low bar to clear for a guy with Rookie of the Year aspirations, but, for Jung, it’s a significant one. A full spring training would be his first as a pro.
He understands the components of his swing better than most young players. And he’s perhaps more invested in the mental side of the game than many players at his stage. Put those two things together and it created kindling for a pile of winter projects. “I built my swing over 24 years and then, all of a sudden, I’ve got a new shoulder and I had to slow down and feel it out again,” Jung said. “I hadn’t had enough time with it. And then I think once I started missing, I started putting so much pressure on myself just to make contact. Once you start focusing on that, you are doing exactly what you don’t want to do. That’s what I fell into.
