Rangers manager Chris Woodward pointed to the importance of the second half for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe and outfielder Adolis Garcia.
“I think we should all talk to Marcus,” Woodward said to end Saturday’s pregame chat with the media in Oakland. “It would be worthwhile.” What Woodward has seen is a guy who sticks to the same routine every day, regardless of circumstance. In Oakland, for example, Semien had the same immediate postgame routine every game, no matter win or loss. He gets in the weight room, does a brief workout and then stretches. He said he goes to the weight room before games as well, working out for 20 minutes to “activate his muscles” before he swings in the batting cage.
For Semien, the numbers agree. He’s played in 162 games twice in his career, and in both 2019 and 2021 he finished September and October strong. In 2019 he had eight home runs over that span and an OPS of 1.134 – the highest of the season by nearly .200 points. Last season, he hit 13 home runs in 31 September and October games.
