Rangers have been handed a MAJOR Europa League boost after being confirmed as a Pot 1 side in the draw.
Their inclusion in the seedings as one of the top eight teams at this part of the competition means they will avoid facing big hitters like Liverpool, West Ham, Roma and Ajax as they get ready to learn their group stage fate in a matter of hours. They can still land a number of tricky sides in the shape of Brighton, Marseille, Sporting Lisbon and Olympiacos from across the other pots as they bid to go deep into a tournament that has delivered success over the years.
It was only just two years ago Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his troops went all the way to the final in Seville before a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Bundesliga side Frankfurt. It was a memorable run to the showpiece that included scalps over Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Braga as the Light Blues bid to do it all again this season after their Champions League exit. Michael Beale and Co lost out 5-1 in Eindhoven against PSV to lose the play-off tie 7-3 on aggregate to drop down.
