Peter Laviolette put the lines in a blender on the way to a 4-0 loss to the Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Peter Laviolette has deployed the same skaters in the past eight games, but the Rangers head coach put the lines in a blender on the way toWhile they weren’t effective, it’s possible Laviolette will opt to make some changes going into a back-to-back weekend slate against the Bruins and Golden Knights.

After bumping Vincent Trocheck to center Will Cuylle and Reilly Smith, Laviolette threw Artemi Panarin-Filip Chytil-Chris Kreider out there. We also saw Arthur Kaliyev slot next to Adam Edstrom and Sam Carrick, in addition to a small stretch with Panarin next to Mika Zibanejad and Alexis Lafreniere. “I had bumped somebody with Fil and Kreids multiple times through the course of the game,” he said. “We didn’t generate much through the first and second periods. I think maybe we had six, seven chances, and they might’ve had eight even-strength. There wasn’t a whole lot going on, but when we did move it up there was a couple chances that we generated on Fil’s line.

“So we were moving pieces around just trying, down 2-0, don’t think we were generating a lot and just trying to find something.” It’s possible we see one or more of the three skaters — Jimmy Vesey, Zac Jones and Jonny Brodzinski — who have sat out for a relatively long period of time. The least likely would be Jones because of how much credit Laviolette has given the new-look defense for the Rangers’ ability to stabilize this month.rangerBrodzinski has been a healthy scratch in the past eight games, while Vesey has watched from the press box in eight of the past nine.
