The Texas Rangers have agreed to a one-year deal with left-handed pitcher Hoby Milner, pending a physical. Milner, a Texas native, spent last season with the Milwaukee Brewers. Known for his off-speed pitches and ability to induce soft contact, Milner has a career spanning since 2017.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Milner earned $2.05 million last year but was non-tendered by the Brewers.
The issue with giving up soft contact is that it can subject a pitcher to “bad luck,” which is what Milner experienced in 2024. Conversely, it can also lead to good luck when those soft-hit balls don’t find holes. In 2023, he compiled a 1.82 ERA, 0.964 WHIP and .573 OPS in 73 outings for the Brewers.Milner’s delivery and his 80 mph sweeping slider are his top weapons. He gets by with just an 88.8 mph average four-seam fastball.
