The rand firms to the dollar but weakens against the euro after upbeat eurozone industrial production numbers for March

The rand was firmer against the dollar on Friday afternoon, with global sentiment boosted following the release of better-than-expected eurozone industrial production data.

At 2pm, the rand was 0.37% firmer at R19.956/$, 0.12% weaker at R15.7839/€, and flat at R18.2722/£. The euro was 0.51% stronger at $1.1311.The rand is on track for its second week of gains, continuing to be boosted by positive sentiment towards emerging markets, as well as an upbeat opinion on SA’s credit rating by Moody’s Investors Service.
