The city of Rancho Palos Verdes is dedicating nearly its entire annual budget to combatting a severe landslide crisis. The city council approved \$2 million to maintain dewatering wells and repair fissures, bringing the total cost to \$33 million, close to the \$39 million allocated for the city's entire operation. The landslide has rendered dozens of homes uninhabitable, prompting the city to invest heavily in mitigation efforts.
Rancho Palos Verdes is on track to spend as much as it takes to run the entire city for the year on continued efforts to shore up landslide movement that has rendered dozens of homes uninhabitable.City leaders approved taking $2 million from other infrastructure projects and direct it toward operating and maintaining dewatering wells in the Portuguese Bend landslide area, as well as filling fissures in Altamira Canyon.
There has been some progress. The dewatering wells, which pump water from the ground, coupled with the dry weather spells have led to land movement slowing down.
