Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford only played in nine games this season, dealing with injuries that included a season-ending spinal cord contusion.
Saturday that the Rams are expected to pick up Stafford’s “2023 option bonus and 2024 salary by the third day of the league year.” That aligned with what Stafford told reporters in his end-of-season press conference Monday, when he said there were “not really” any retirement conversations despite his two stints in concussion protocol and aAccording to Schefter, the anticipated decision would guarantee Stafford $62 million.
Stafford only appeared in nine games for the Rams this season — missing Week 10 with a concussion, returning for Week 11 and then not playing again the rest of the year. Speculation about a possible retirement for the 34-year-old began, but StaffordLos Angeles went 3-6 in the nine games Stafford started, and he threw for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
