With frustration getting the best of the Rams, predictably there was no fourth-quarter comeback this time, as the 49ers cruised to a 31-14 victory at SoFi Stadium. The Rams have now lost eight consecutive regular-season games to the 49ers .
“That isn’t the problem,” Rams coach Sean McVay said after being asked if they plan on trading for a running back. “Whether it’s a running back or whatever it is, you still have to be able to get a hat on a hat and handle movement up front no matter who’s running the football and I don’t think the run game is exclusively on the running back.”
The Rams were potentially a takeaway away from ending the long regular-season losing streak to the rival 49ers. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford delivered a handful of impressive throws in the first half and received solid protection from the offensive line against the 49ers’ stout pass rushers. Stafford was able to read the field and allowed routes to develop on his lone touchdown pass, a rarity for him this season because of the shaky offensive line play.
