Coach Sean McVay acknowledges that the team explored the possibility of dealing the All-Pro wide receiver but ultimately decided it wasn’t what was best for the team.

Rams wide receiver Davante Adams, left, is tackled by Carolina Panthers linebacker Christian Rozeboom during the second half of their NFC wild-card playoff game last January in Charlotte, N.C. In his first season with the Rams, Adams caught 60 passes for 789 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns despite missing the final three games of the regular season with a hamstring injury.

PHOENIX — Despite some discussions about Davante Adams’ future with the Rams – including the possibility of a trade – head coach Sean McVay said Monday at the NFL’s league meetings that the team and the All-Pro receiver are moving forward together ahead of the 2026 season. “I wouldn’t say discussed, you know, we really talked about some different avenues of onboarding other players and how it might affect Davante,” McVay said. “I’ve talked with Davante about that. And if we felt like it was best for our team, we would have done that. But we didn’t think it was best for our team.” The Rams were reportedly in the mix in trade discussions for Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro receiver A.J. Brown this offseason, a move that would have meant a crowded receiver room and even more crowded salary cap situation had the Rams opted to keep Adams. But ultimately, McVay said, the Rams decided they were a better team with Adams than without, something that McVay said he communicated with the 33-year-old after some of those trade talks were reported on. “I love him. But what I also have a responsibility to do is decisions that are best for our football team,” McVay said. “I don’t want to get too specific for what my conversation was with him, but I addressed what those conversations were, even though they never really got too far. But I did want to acknowledge it and then be able to tell him, you know, the cool thing is is when you let the tape guide your decision making.” In his first season with the Rams, Adams caught 60 passes for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns. He led the NFL in the latter category despite missing the final three games of the regular season with a hamstring injury. In those three games, the Rams’ red-zone conversion rate dropped to 46.15% from 66.67% in the first 14 games. That differential played a big role in the Rams’ ultimate decision to stay the course with Adams, who signed a two-year contract with the Rams in March 2025. “We talked a lot about, especially in the red zone, hey, Davante on the field for the Rams, Davante off the field, red zone, red‑zone data is pretty self‑explanatory,” Rams general manager Les Snead said. “So that was a big discussion. If we were going to move on from that, touchdowns are important and there’s no necessarily guarantee that we can replace that.”75 arrested in downtown LA at ‘No Kings’ protest; federal officers injured, authorities sayInside Paul McCartney’s Friday night performance at LA’s Fonda TheatreBreak up LAUSD before it fails another generationVoices from ‘No Kings’ protests around Southern California
