"Is it fair to say you find some fault in how the City of San Antonio and its agencies handled this?" the defense asks.San Antonio Police officers and Animal Care Services officers were sworn in as witnesses Tuesday morning. "You can have them, I don't want them," you see Schnieder tell officers. "Am I gonna get in trouble for this?""I had the gate closed, I guess they broke through it," Schnieder says on body cam.Detective Richard Casillas takes the stand next. He works with San Antonio Police to document crime scenes.
The prosecution asked about the number of bite investigators in San Antonio over the years. She says four bite investigators served under her in 2020 and 2021. There were three investigators when Mr. Najera was bit, one in training.She says when a dog bites someone, they acquire a photo or proof that a bite occurred. State law says that animals must go into quarantine for ten days. It is released on the 11th day. If the owner doesn't come in that day, the animal becomes city property.
"We try to get affidavits for every severe bite that comes in," Snowden says. Those are larger lacerations or wounds on more extremities compared to a mild or moderate bite.He has been a big driver of change in the city's efforts to adjust dangerous dog protocol.He says his father's death left a hole in their family."His longevity was taken away," Raymond adds. "We had plenty of time left with our father.
