Ramkarpal: 240 bribe-givers charged by MACC since 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 240 bribe-givers have been charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 since 2019, says Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Ramkarpal Singh.

He told Dewan Negara that of the number, 29 and 211 have been charged under Sections 16 and 17 of the Act, respectively.

He said due to the frequency of the cases recorded, only one party between the giver and the receiver of the bribe was punished because no third party turned up to provide evidence and testimony on the guilt of the party involved. Meanwhile, Ramkarpal said the government was looking into the need to set up a Law Commission or Law Reform Commission.
